Fanboys (and Fangirls) Rejoice! Underground Micro Theater announces Fundraisers for SpoCon
The Underground Micro Theater is an 11 seat theater located in a private residence in the Spokane Valley.
It's features include a 110" screen (8 ft. wide by 4.5 feet tall,) DLP projector, Blu-Ray player, 550 watt 5.1 surround sound system with one 120 watt powered sub in front and 2 subwoofers in back running off a seperate 200 watt stereo receiver. Nine of the seats (five in the back row and four in the middle row) are real movie theater seats complete with cup holders. The front row is composed of two reclining glide rockers with glide rocker footrests.
The front row is a mere eight feet from the screen and features a staggering 53 degree viewing angle for those who like a hyper-immersive movie experience. The middle row exceeds the THX recommended 36 degrees and even the back row exceeds the THX recommended minimum viewing angle for theaters with a 28 degree viewing angle.
When was the last time you saw your favorite movie on the big screen? No television in your living room can recreate the feeling of awe and wonder like watching a movie in the Underground Micro Theater. Some even prefer the experience over going to an actual movie theater although I will let you decide for yourself. (No screaming kids, no cell phones, no out of control heat or refrigerator-like air conditioning, and if everyone agrees, you can hit pause for a bathroom break - a very handy feature for three hour movies.)
Just think... Star Wars... The Lord of the Rings... The Matrix... Aliens... Zombies... you name it! We'll show it.
We're in the planning stages right now and would like to hear from you - the movie fans - about what you'd like to see and would be willing to pay for. This is, after all, a fundraiser.
We'll be setting dates soon for our first showing - the entire first three epsides of Star Wars. And by first three I mean the order in which they came out - A New Hope, Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. It will be a three movie marathon on a Saturday some time in September.
We hope to have one showing a month between now and SpoCon 2011.
Email me at dellwo@comcast.net if you have any interest in these showings. Give me your name and contact information as well as any suggestions. We're in the process of creating a facebook page. I'll put it on this forum once it's prepared.
Tell your family! Tell your friends! Come out to the Underground Micro Theater for the best movie experience in town.

That sounds pretty cool, Joe. Two "geeky" movies come to mind that I'd like to see in such an environment: Bladerunner and Metropolis. Bladerunner, because it's still the greatest sci fi movie ever. Metropolis, because it was one of the first and it'd be fun to see such an old movie on the "big screen". Ooo... I don't really go in for the movie marathon thing, but what about a Whedon Trillogy? Buffy's "Once More with Feeling", Firefly episode (any really), and finish off with Dr. Horrible?

I would like to show two-fers or three-fers whenever possible.
I am a huge Whedon fan. 'Once more with feeling' could be awesome. It's a good stand alone episode. I currently have the series loaned to me. 'Hush' is also a classic but my poor little sound system would just be left to sit there all alone, silent and sad.
I own Blade Runner, would be happy to show that. Haven't seen Metropolis but would certainly be willing. It's classic. They could be paired together or just go with a Phillip K. Dick theme. There's several to choose from.
My wife and I have been developing a play list and will gladly take all suggestions and requests into account.
Also, tell your friends. It only seats 11 (12 or 13 in a pinch,) so RSVP your intent to attend as soon as possible.
You can also search for Joe Dellwo on facebook. Shoot me a message and a friend request listing The Underground Micro Theater. Check out my photos of the venue. I've also made images of the theater available to non-friends. Check it out.

Geeky side trip here: You know, Hush might be really great with a super awesome sound system. It's not totally silent is it? I think it would only enhance the creepiness of the episode as every little sound is amplified.

Firefly.... Firefly.... Firefly...
And yes, I will want to come out for Star Wars! This sounds cool. You should charge extra for Rock Band or Halo lol.
Oh, almost forgot.. since most of us never got to see it on the big screen since it was a very limited release... FANBOYS!

If you can find at least 5 people who'd pay $1 an episode each, I'll run the whole 14 episodes plus Serenity. That's 16 hours of Browncoaty goodness for $15. Actually, each episode is 42 minutes. Not sure what that boils down to. But if you and some other folks are up for the marathon of a lifetime, let me know. I'll do it. Check out my facebook and you can see pictures of the place.

That's two votes for Firefly/Serenity. Can we get more people?
I've done the math and it's about a 15-16 hour project with 10 minute breaks and two 45 minute meal periods.
We can play it a couple of ways:
All day marathon - 10 am to 1:30-ish am.
Split marathon - Start Friday night at 6:30 and watch 4 episodes. Return at 10:00 am and wrap up about 10:00 pm.
I personally would prefer the split marathon. It's a nice balance between commitment and endurance. I have theater seats, not Lazy Boys.
I originally suggested $1 per episode but I'm thinking that $10 for the whole thing plus $2 for a burger/dog, chips and soda is more reasonable. That way people can decide if they want to eat in, eat out or bring their own food.
In addition, IF we have empty seats available we could do $1 per episode and $2.50 for the movie for people who weren't able to attend the whole event. If I know Browncoats though, I don't think there will be many empty seats.
