Displays
So my husband and I had an idea for the next con.
What if art was displayed in the lobby? While people are waiting in line they could see the art, get excited about it, know it is available. I would really encourage auction peices be displayed like this, and have some notes that these items are for sale, etc.

That sounds like an interesting idea. I'm not sure how we could protect the art pieces.
I also had an idea. Why not have the Art be in the rooms that have the windows that show out to the hallway? Those room numbers are 103 & 104, the total sq ft is 1,174.2, more than what was for the Art last yr.
We could have the Dealers in rms 109, 108, 107, 126, & 127. With rm 111 as an overflow for Art or Dealers.
Emily & Paula what do you think?

With any luck Dealers and Art will be in a different, more suitable, building next year.
Aka the Art Museum. (But won't know till I see all the space and what access we will have.)

The key is getting artists and art for display. How's that coming so far? We can have several thousand square feet of space, but does us no good if it's not full (being the bad guy here... part of my job
). Anyway. The walk throughs at the next ConCom meeting will help greatly.

I don't think dealers are going to want to be at one end of the grounds and several blocks from the main buildings of the Con. Also isn't the Museum alot more space than Art is going to use. Last I heard gaming was in that building so that all the gaming would be in one place.

I think that walking through the space will help everyone. A vendor pointed out to me that last year there was no wheelchair access to vendors and that the hallway was so crowded that if there were an emergency it would have been incredibly difficult to evacuate or get EMT staff in.

Actually their was wheelchair access to every room and there was an injury in the building and EMT as well as the ambulance had no problem with access or mobility in the building. The Jepson was built recently and was required to be fully wheelchair accessable. We will never be able to make everyone happy and the dealers last year complained about everything. We will try to do our best to make them all happy but no matter what we do someone will be unhappy.

If anyone has any favorite artists that they would like to contact or have me contact for our art show.....let me know. C'mon people, don't let me fill up the show with just my favorites. Who would YOU like to see there?
This year I've had a surprising request for shelf space. Glass, clay, and ceramic artists are getting interested in our show. I'll be happy to make more shelf space available if needed.

Because Paula's been lazy. Hmmmm, it's a good question, though. I ran and hid during the photo session so I suppose I should submit something to put by my name.

I have sent requests for art to the suggested artists.
Anybody else out there with suggestions? I really would like to find more local beginning artists with original affordable work.

You did not say "affordable" before... =) Before school gets out, you might be able to visit the local university/college art classes and talk them into something.
