Okay, I thought I'd start a topic in here and get some conversation going about my favorite (but sometimes head-desk) part of a con. COSPLAY!

So, is anyone else planning on wearing costumes to the con? I'll probably do a cat girl of some sort, but as of yet (and since I have many unfinished costumes for another con) I haven't decided or made one specifically for SpoCon.

Soooooo.....anyone?

That's awesome I was worried I might be the only one going in costume. I will be playing Garra From Naruto in his Kazakage form. Weather their are other Naruto characters or Anime participant would be cool but I've already got my costume ready either way. Smiling

I've considered doing young Kakashi before, but I haven't actually made a costume for it yet. Maybe I'll consider it for SpoCon...or heck, fem Kakashi/Gaara could be fun too....Sticking out tongue

I just hope I can come up with something. If not, I may just end up wearing a costume I've already made.

*growls at and goes back to making wings* <--they're a pain to make....

Costumes, Cosplay... completely welcome at SpoCon. Why? It's all about the FAN! Seriously. Some folks are into movies, some into gaming, some into books, we're fans of sci-fi / fantasy and all that is around it. Although not into cosplay myself, I do have a number of costumes I'll wear at Cons because it's fun, and it adds to the overall experience.

Plus.. when the "mundanes" see all these people having a great time, perhaps it will encourage them to get involved. I personally enjoy seeing the time, effort, and creativity put into what everyone wears. I may not know much of anything about Anime, and likely never will, but as a long time fan of various things I completely see the dedication and enthusiasm. Smiling So I guess that makes me a fan of the fans? Eye

You definitely won't be alone in wearing a costume. Most of the friends I know who are going are busily working away at costumes to wear especially for SpoCon (well at least ideas for costumes...knowing the kind of procrastinating that goes on, who knows when the actual sewing will begin heheh). I may have one ready for the convention myself. "May have." Eye

w00t! More cosplays!

Heck if I choose to be ambitious/insane, I might do both (since I found some cute pics on deviantART.) But if not I can always trot out Hunny, or one of the 4 I hope to get done before April...*goes back to work on them*

Oooo...hey....the forums work mostly properly with Firefox now...except new is still under the title. But great job fixing it! No idea what you did, but still A++!

This is going to be an awesome year! I look forward to seeing all the faces and costumes at Spocon. I will hopefully be helping at the event and that makes it all the more enjoyable.

I think it's classified as enthusiasm for others, but insanity for those like me. As such, my insanity has dictated that I try to do fem Kakashi for SpoCon. XD Found an awesome pic, so now it's in my head and won't scram.

Alright Sexy jutsu Kakashi should be brilliant! Insanity is only one aspect of Enthusiasm, after all it is only through Chaos that beautiful stars are born.

-_- I bought plastic for the con because I figured sharp metal objects might be prohibited. Most cons have trouble even with plastic to a good degree because of safety issues and such. I seen a really cute stiff foam set some where on line as well but I'm not a fan of foam so I went for the plastic stuff. Also crafted three Kuni myself by casting a mold of my metal dagger and pouring hot glue into it...still trying to clean those up a bit though but I have the time so its cool.

Kunai and shuriken. Sticking out tongue I tried sharpening the ones I have (for kicks and giggles, not con participation) and it didn't work real well. I'm a fan of metal over plastic, so....yea... Hopefully my Hitsugaya sword will have made it here by then too...I could do fem Toshiro too!! Sticking out tongue Either that or I'll bring Hunny again. People seem to like my Hunny.

I'm going to cosplay for sure, just like last year.
I just haven't decided between Itachi Uchiha from Naruto or Roxas again from Kingdom Hearts.
I really hope more people participate this year

Since sharp pointy things are allowed to wear with costumes.... will there be more common sense and rational thought applied to other props that can be worn with costumes this year?

Still miffed that my *completely* resin model of a Battlestar Galactica blaster was outlawed while the Star Wars costumers could carry props of modified Sterling Submachine guns... *sigh*

That's cool, Jarus, but I still want to make sure I can wear my costume without breaking the rules or giving some Zag security guard a coronary.

Hmm....are there some costume guidelines anywhere? There really should be for any con. *wanders off in random search pattern*

Honestly tho, if what you posted above is accurate, yours prolly should have been allowed while theirs not...but then sometimes those things are merely judged by 'realism' and if yours looked more realistic....

I have wondered the same thing too....what are the weapons and replica/prop weapon restrictions at SpoCon? I am kinda/sorta toying with a DocWagon SRT uniform to go with the first of my three Shadowrun rpg tournaments, but it wont make the grade if i cant tote an airsoft pistol in a holster.....

Are there any rules and regs regarding this posted anywhere?

Thanks!

I'm considering going in costume, got a few stuff I made the past couple years, Carmen Sandiego, Solid Snake etc. - with the latter, I'd like to know the replica/prop weapon restrictions.

Weapons Policy:

No projectile weapons (GU policy...) Sorry, no airsoft, no nerf (seriously, no nerf guns).
It is okay to use a fake firearm or bow for the Masqurade only.. they may not be carried around campus.

If it's a sharp blade, it stays in it's sheath / scabbard / or is covered up. Safety.

All weapons must be peace bonded and checked by security.

If you have to ask yourself "is this okay?" It probably isn't.
